The environmental sustainability of logistics is a critical priority for companies, yet they often lack clarity on how to align sustainability with the objectives defined at the strategic level. Because this lack of clarity prevents them from translating sustainability into concrete actions, this research explores how companies can concretely integrate logistics environmental sustainability with their business strategies.  The research is based on multiple case studies involving several principals and logistics service providers in Italy. The results collected through semi-structured interviews highlight how companies seem more motivated by the need to comply with regulations or protect their environmental reputation, rather than a real understanding of the need to adopt sustainable practices. As a result, the research proposes a framework to foster alignment between logistics environmental sustainability and business strategy, broken down into five main dimensions: degree of awareness, degree of formalization, measurement systems, governance and accountability, and budget allocation.
