This research approaches climate change from a managerial perspective, proposing a paradigm shift for businesses and consequently a new management model: from profit maximization to welfare maximization. After analyzing the effects of climate change on firms and value chains, the research emphasizes the role of firms and managers in combating climate change and suggests a transformation in management principles: more responsible business models that see it as an entity owned by itself and not by shareholders; long-term vision and performance also measured in terms of collective well-being. The utopian valence of the project, while it can be seen as a limitation, gives it the power of dreams capable of mobilizing, and therefore scholars and managers are invited to radically rethink management to respond to today's pressing environmental challenges.
