The research contained in a volume published in the monthly magazine Bancaria presents the results of a balance sheet analysis of companies in the Triveneto region to understand their exposure to the volatility of raw material prices, primarily oil and gas. In the first part, the study analyzes the evolution of oil and gas prices, also focusing on the prospective evolution of the markets in light of the new geopolitical framework. In the second part of the study, the authors focus on the financial statement analysis of almost all small and medium-sized enterprises in the Triveneto region (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Trentino, and Veneto), highlighting the impact of commodity price volatility on the main economic and financial balances of companies. The article provides empirical evidence useful for interpreting current exposure to risks, also in light of the energy transition.
